About the event

Give it a Go!

Come and give it a go, meet other keen adaptive riders, and check out a range of adaptive bikes and trikes! Our goal at #AdaptMTB is to get you out riding again or riding for the first time. We will have experienced helpers and riders to help and support you to get out and give it a go.

Format of the event

We ask that participants book a free 1 hour session. By having booked sessions we can be sure to have the right equipment and enough helpers so you can get the most out of you time. Please be sure to pick a ticket with the date and time you are wanting to attend.

When you arrive on the day please check in at the #AdaptMTB desk at The Sails venue and you’ll be introduced to your helpers. They will get you set up on the equipment you want to try and you can test your skills in the space under The Sail. If you’re feeling comfortable and if you’re keen you can then head out with your helpers for a loop around a grade 1 trail, this would be through the forest so please dress for outdoor conditions.

Although we ask participants to book a 1 hour session to use the equipment it doesn’t mean you can’t arrive early or stay longer, or even just come along and take a look and learn more about adaptive mountain biking – the event is open from 10am - 3pm. You’re welcome to hang out to meet and encourage other adaptive mountain bikers. As well as riding the day is also about having fun, making new friends and building a stronger community!

If you have whānau , e hoa (friends) or a support person coming along please make sure to tell us the number of them when you fill in the form so we know how many people to expect on the day.

Equipment

We will have a variety of e-bikes and trikes for you to try on the day, or if you have your own bike and just need some help to get up and rolling, bring it along with you.

Some of the bikes and trikes we will have at this event are; Giant e-bikes, Lasher Off-Road trikes and many more

Please note: While this event is a great chance for your whānau and e hoa to learn about adaptive bikes, e-bikes and trikes - we do ask that they don’t ride them. This is because we have a very busy schedule, and several bikes/trikes are electric assist so the batteries need to last the whole day to ensure that all adaptive participants can have a chance to try. If your family/friends want to ride out on the beginner trail with you we ask that they bring their own bike and helmet to do so.

Support & helpers

We have experienced volunteer helpers and riders to support and encourage you. The suppliers of the equipment will also be attending so that you can talk with them more about what they have on offer and finding the ideal set up for you.

Whānau and friends are welcome to come along to support you, please book them a "general admission" ticket, this is so we know how many people to expect on the day.

Please note: Our #AdaptMTB volunteers are not trained or qualified disability carers. They are highly motivated to get you riding safely and are trained to treat you with respect. However, they will be unable to assist with any special or personal care needs. If you require a career/support person to assist you, please bring them along and book a general admission ticket.

Weather forecast - rain or shine

The Sails venue will offer us some protection from rain, and will give you a chance to meet your helpers and get set up on the equipment and test your skills under cover. If you’re feeling comfortable and are keen you can head out with your helpers for a loop through the forest so please dress for these outdoor conditions.

We will have a changing area set up for after your ride so you can change out of any wet or muddy clothes, should you need too. There will be food provided and/or you can grab a hot drink at the iSites cafe just near our location.

Calling for volunteers!

We need volunteers on the day to support, encourage and help our participants. There are many ways you can help, you don’t need to be an experienced mountain biker. If you are interested in helping please complete this volunteer registration form.
